A Quiet Night
It's a clear night in Jackson County Wyoming, the last night before Winter settles and the nights become bitterly cold. Taking advantage of this fact, Joel and Ellie are sitting just outside of the fence enjoying the warmth of a crackling fire. Just the day before, Tommy managed to find a guitar from a neighboring town and gave it to his brother. Joel plays that guitar now as Ellie reads a book that Maria gave her earlier that day.
Every now and then, a distant wolf howls. As the night wears on a guard on patrol walks by on the wall, they don't stay long before continuing their watch. Occasionally Ellie sighs and Joel smiles, grateful that his girl is alive and that they are together. Ellie can never replace his beloved daughter Sarah but this spunky little girl has filled the hole in his heart and helped him love in a way he thought could never be possible again.
